Pre-Dive Setup Checklist: BeamHold in Five Minutes
From kit bag to ready-to-dive in five minutes: mount, angle, fit check, and rinse plan—so your hands stay free the moment you hit the water.
Surface setup in five steps
A good mount should not add ceremony. This checklist is what we use before every field test session.
1. Inspect the mount
Check the strap, buckle, and clamp for salt crystals or sand. A quick freshwater rinse from the last dive prevents grit from scratching the light barrel.
2. Seat the light
Slide the light into the clamp to the marked depth. The switch should sit within thumb reach—verify with gloves on if you dive cold.
3. Set the angle once
Aim at a fixed point at eye level on the boat or dock. Lock the angle. Do not plan to re-aim underwater with cold hands.
4. Mask fit check
Put on your mask and regulator. Nod and turn— the beam should track your eyes without sliding on the strap. Ask a buddy to confirm you are not blasting their mask.
5. Stow until entry
Kill the light, stow spare batteries if applicable, and pack the reel/camera. You are done—both hands free for the walk to the entry.
After the dive
- Freshwater rinse mount and light
- Dry shade; avoid leaving clamped on the light long-term in a hot car
- Log any strap wear in your kit notes
