How to Choose a Compatible Dive Light for BeamHold
Barrel diameter, switch placement, and beam pattern all affect fit. Use this guide to match your existing torch—or pick a new one—with the BeamHold mount.
Compatibility starts with barrel geometry
BeamHold clamps to a cylindrical light body. Before ordering, measure:
- Barrel diameter at the mount point (not the head bezel)
- Switch location—can you reach high/low/off without removing the light?
- Cable routing if the light is wired to a canister (head-only mounts may not apply)
If your light tapers sharply or has an oversized heat sink, contact us with the model name—we maintain a growing compatibility list on the product page.
Beam pattern vs. dive type
| Dive style | Suggested beam | Why | |------------|----------------|-----| | Recreational reef | Medium flood | Even coverage for look-around | | Night / macro | Spot with spill | Subject isolation with context | | Wreck exterior | Flood or spot | Personal preference; stability matters more than pattern |
The mount does not change the optics—it holds them steady. Invest in a light with reliable seals and a smooth beam without dark rings.
Weight and balance on the mask
Heavy lights pull on the mask skirt. Compact secondaries (under ~200 g in air) balance best. Test on the surface: shake your head gently; the mount should not slip or rotate.
